While I don't consider myself a wine a connoisseur I do love the taste of wine in the evenings after a long day. My preference is a sweet white wine. In the fall and colder months of the year a hearty red wine is my wine of choice.
I recently reviewed Refresh by Turning Leaf Red Moscato and Refresh by Turning Leaf Crisp White Wine. The Red Moscato was truly a treat for me. I love the sweetness of a Moscato. But the Refresh by Turning Leaf Moscato threw me for a loop. Not only was it a red Moscato but it reminded me of a champagne because it was filled with bubbles. It was indeed a refreshing experiences.
I could taste the peach and hint of floral notes in the Refresh by Turning Leaf Moscato. It truly was like no other Moscato I've tasted before. It's a hearty wine that can hold it's on over ice. It doesn't get watered down when adding ice. It's the perfect treat to serve to guest for the upcoming holidays. The majority of my guest are used to being served wine when they come to visit but I can't wait to see the look on their faces when I add ice and they taste the subtle bubbles on their palette's.
The Red Moscato pairs well with a rack of ribs or a good burger. At $8 per bottle it won't break the bank when serving at a backyard BBQ or birthday party. The Crisp White Wine with it's citrus undertones pairs well with savory foods like turkey or chicken.
I love the versatility of a good wine. Good wines can go well with a burger and fries or a steak and Lobster dinner. With the upcoming holidays I often use wine when cooking my meals, especially turkey. Listed below is my easy recipe for the best tasting juiciest turkey ever.
Turkey Recipe
1 Turkey
2 oranges
2 apples
4 fresh sage leaves
1/2 c. sugar
Crisco buttered flavored shortening
1 bottle Turning Leaf Crisp White Wine
1 large brown paper bag
Remove the gizzard and neck bag from inside of the turkey and rinse the turkey thoroughly. Soak turkey for 2 hours in 1/2 c. sugar and enough water to submerge turkey. Drain and discard water and pat turkey dry with paper towel. Slice apples and oranges leave the rinds on and place inside the turkey cavity. Place 2 of each of the slices beneath the skin of the turkey along with 2 of the sage leaves. With gloves on slather turkey with buttered flavored Crisco inside and outside. Place the remainder of fruit and sage leaves in the turkey cavity. Place turkey in large brown paper bag. Place in large roasting pan. Pour one bottle of wine inside the bag with the turkey. Fold up the bag and cook the turkey according to size of turkey and package directions. Once the turkey is done remove sage leaves and fruit. I enjoy this recipe because it doesn't require any basting of the turkey. Once the turkey is cooked just remove the bag let the turkey rest and then serve.
