Changes in Education over the Past 25 Years

Education has changed a great deal from the days of the three R's, reading writing and arithmetic. I've noticed the changes from the years I attended school over 20 years ago compared to my boys.
Technology not only plays a giant role in our everyday lives but in education as well. I mean after all the kids have to learn to use all of this technology even if we parents don't know how.

The first computers to enter the classroom were Apple computers. They changed the way kids were taught forever. When I attended school we learned from books, computers were not available in the classroom for learning. Traditional chalkboards have been replaced with smartboards. Unlike books all chlk boards have not been replaced they are still used on a limited bases.

Change is the one thing we all strive for but are so afraid of. I believe it's our human nature that makes us fight change. We all know the more technology takes over our everyday lives we have to conform and learn how to use technology in our everyday lives. Technology in education is as important as fuel in a car. Speaking of cars, if you buy a car today you wouldn't be able to drive it without a basic understanding of modern technology.

Years ago if their was an emergency at home parents would have to call the school and talk to two or three people before someone would ultimately have to find the student. Now with cellphones parents can call or text their kids right away. Technology has changed our lives forever. Search engines have replaced dictionaries and encyclopedia's.

When I think of how technology has changed us it reminds me of a quote I actually read in a real book. The book was: A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens. The quote: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. How has technology in education changed your life or your children's lives?
